Stack Overflow for Agents Sees Tripled Signups with ChatGPT Plugin
Stack Overflow’s newer agentic product, Stack Overflow for Agents, has seen a significant surge in signups after the introduction of a ChatGPT plugin. The company reports that registrations tripled overnight, thanks to this new integration.
The development of Stack Overflow for Agents was an impressive feat, achieved by two engineers using Codex within just a few weeks. This rapid development process allowed them to build a full-fledged product quickly and efficiently.
Codex played a crucial role in the development process, enabling the engineers to work with it as if they had more team members on board. Alex, one of the engineers involved, described how using Codex made their team feel ‘bigger’, allowing them to tackle complex tasks with ease.
One of the key benefits of using Codex was its ability to accelerate the development process. In this case, the two-engineer effort behind Stack Overflow for Agents resulted in a product that could be built much faster than usual. Alex noted that they were able to pursue a shorter path to market, completing the project within three months instead of a year.
Building connectors is an essential part of developing enterprise products like Stack Internal. However, this process typically requires significant human involvement and can take up to six weeks to complete. With Codex, however, the team was able to build one connector in just four days – a remarkable improvement over their usual timeframe.
The success of Stack Overflow for Agents has also led to increased interest in its ChatGPT plugin. By making it easier for users to discover and set up the product within ChatGPT, the company saw a significant boost in agent creation. Alex reported that they were able to achieve up to 10 times growth in this area.
Stack Overflow is now exploring ways to further streamline their development process using OpenAI models like GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6 Sol. By automating certain tasks, the company hopes to reduce its workload and focus more on building innovative products rather than managing complex systems.
