Meta Unveils Open-Weight AI Model Muse Spark Open for Mac Users
Meta has announced the launch of its latest open-weight AI model, designed to run on Apple’s Mac computers. Dubbed ‘Muse Spark Open’, this new model boasts an impressive array of capabilities and features that set it apart from other popular models in the field.
The Muse Spark Open model leverages a staggering 816 billion parameters and has a context window of 1 million tokens. According to Meta, these specifications enable superior performance compared to other open-weight models, as demonstrated by evaluation results released on Thursday.
One of the key advantages of this new model is its ability to run locally on Macs, making it an attractive option for users who prefer not to rely on cloud-based services. However, running the model requires significant computational resources, with a minimum of 1 terabyte of RAM needed to operate efficiently. The ideal setup would be to pair the Muse Spark Open model with Apple’s M5 Ultra chip-equipped Mac Studio.
Meta has already put the Muse Spark Open model through its paces by integrating it with its AI coding terminal, Muse Code. This integration enables users to leverage the model for complex tasks such as agentic labor and coding fixes. In one notable example, Meta used the model to address issues in a Mastodon client, including bug fixes, new features, and full build capabilities.
