Meta and Apple Collaborate on Muse AI Model Optimization for Macs

·

Meta has announced the release of its new Muse Spark Open AI model, which boasts an impressive 816 billion total parameters. This makes it one of the most capable open-weight models to date, according to Meta’s claims.

However, what’s even more significant is that this model can run efficiently on desktop computers using two Apple M5 Ultra Mac Studios with the latest MLX framework. This collaboration between Meta and Apple marks a rare instance of cooperation between the two tech giants, who have been rivals in the past.

The CEOs of both companies are publicly supporting each other’s work on Muse Spark Open. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, expressed his enthusiasm for the model’s capabilities, stating that it ‘runs great’ on new Mac Studios thanks to the collaboration with Apple and its team led by John Ternus. The latter replied with a congratulatory message, highlighting the efficiency of running such a complex model directly from one’s desk.

According to Meta chief AI officer Alexandr Wang, this partnership has been in the works for several months. In an interview with Axios, he noted that it’s ‘exciting’ to see both companies working together on this project. The collaboration is seen as a positive development, especially given the rivalry between Meta and Apple in other areas.
