Uber Deploys ChatGPT Work Across Entire Global Workforce
Ride-sharing giant Uber has announced that it will be using the AI chatbot ChatGPT Work across its entire global workforce of approximately 30,000 employees. This move is an expansion of the company’s partnership with OpenAI, which was first introduced in July as a corporate-focused AI agent for various workflows.
The decision to deploy ChatGPT Work comes after Uber successfully piloted it with 1,000 employees earlier this year. The pilot program involved workers from across different departments, including finance, operations, and product, with the majority of early adopters being non-engineers – around 80% according to Sumanth Sukumar, Uber’s VP of engineering.
Sukumar explained that during the pilot phase, employees used ChatGPT Work for a wide range of tasks such as analyzing complex data from operations to identify trends and develop recommendations. They also utilized it for localizing training materials in different markets and languages, as well as building personalized interactive dashboards to manage their daily work.
While Uber has now scaled up its usage of ChatGPT Work across the entire company, it seems that the ride-sharing giant hasn’t settled on exactly how employees will use it. Sukumar stated that ‘Our approach is to make powerful AI tools available across Uber while giving teams room to experiment.’ He also mentioned an example where 30 AI engineers were paired with teams and given two weeks to automate key parts of their job, resulting in the creation of ‘AI pods’ that showed significant potential when combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of a particular job.
