Honda and Acura Add Conversational AI Assistant to Select Models

Honda and Acura are integrating Google Gemini, an artificial intelligence assistant, into certain models that already feature Google software. This upgrade will enable drivers to interact with the system in a more conversational manner than its predecessor, allowing for more natural communication on the road.

The integration of Gemini is designed to enhance connectivity and access to information while driving. Drivers can use voice commands to ask for directions, recommendations, or other types of assistance. The new AI assistant will also be able to answer layered questions and retain context to provide more informed suggestions in the future.

Drivers who are signed into their Google account on compatible models will have access to Gemini’s features. This includes the ability to engage in a ‘genuine conversation’ with the system, rather than relying on strict voice commands as was required for the old Google Assistant. The AI assistant can also assist drivers with tasks unrelated to driving or navigation.

According to Honda, this integration marks an essential step towards improving connectivity and access to information while driving. Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, notes that ‘connected technology is no longer a convenience for Honda customers—it’s an essential part of the driving experience.’

The upgraded software will be available on nine Honda models and three Acura models. However, not all trims and model years qualify for the update. The included models are listed below: 2024 Acura ZDX in all trims; 2025-current Acura MDX in all trims; 2026-current Acura ADX A-Spec Advance;

Additionally, the following Honda models will receive the upgrade: 2023-current Honda Accord Touring Hybrid; 2025-current Honda Civic Sedan Si and Sport Touring Hybrid; 2025-current Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring Hybrid; 2024-current Honda Prologue in all trims; 2026-current Honda Pilot in all trims;

Lastly, the upgrade will also be available on 2026-current Honda Passport in all trims, as well as 2026-current Honda CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid and 2026-current Honda Prelude in all trims. It’s worth noting that not all trim levels or model years are eligible for this update.

The integration of Google Gemini is part of a broader effort by both Honda and Acura to provide drivers with more comprehensive access to information on the road. By leveraging AI assistants, these manufacturers aim to enhance the driving experience and make it easier for drivers to stay connected and productive while behind the wheel.
