Sand Springs Schools Investigate AI-Generated Images Targeting Administrators

Students at Charles Page High School in Sand Springs have been sending emails containing artificial intelligence-generated images that depict school administrators in compromising situations. The district has confirmed the incident and is now investigating how widespread it was.

According to a message sent to families, the AI-generated images were created using deepfake technology. While the district supports students learning about emerging technologies, officials emphasized that creating and sharing non-consensual AI-generated content constitutes serious misconduct.

The investigation will look into who may have been involved in distributing the emails and how they used the school's email system to do so. Students found responsible for creating or sharing these images could face disciplinary action under district policy, which includes losing computer privileges and potentially facing suspension or expulsion.

As a precautionary measure, all student email accounts on district-issued platforms have been temporarily disabled while the investigation continues. This decision was made because the emails were distributed using school networks and systems.

The district has also notified the Sand Springs Police Department about the incident. According to state and federal laws, violators – including students and their parents or guardians – could face civil or criminal penalties for creating and sharing harmful AI-generated content.

School officials are urging families to discuss responsible technology use with their children and the potential consequences of engaging in such behavior. When student email accounts are reactivated, the district will notify families.
