Purdue University Rolls Out Google Gemini Pro for Faculty and Staff

Purdue University is taking the next step in its partnership with Google by providing access to Google Gemini Pro, an advanced AI platform. The university will begin issuing licenses to interested faculty and staff starting June 15.

The onboarding process involves setting up a system to release licenses as they become available. Those who have already requested access can expect email communication with further instructions once their licenses are activated.

To request a license, individuals should complete the Request Enterprise AI Access form. This will initiate the process for obtaining access to Google Gemini Pro.

Google Gemini Pro is designed to analyze information, generate content, and support complex workflows across various formats, including text, code, images, audio, and video. Its multimodal capabilities make it a valuable tool for teaching, research, and administrative purposes.

The platform ensures that prompts and data remain private when used through Purdue University. The university does not monitor or log activity for compliance or surveillance purposes, only collecting basic, anonymized system data to troubleshoot technical issues and maintain service continuity.

The introduction of Google Gemini Pro follows an earlier announcement in May regarding free access to the Google AI Professional Certificate program for faculty and staff at both West Lafayette and Indianapolis locations. This voluntary seven-course program covers the fundamentals of AI and its applications across six domains: brainstorming and planning, research and insights, writing and communicating, content creation, data analysis, and app building.

Each module can be completed individually in as little as one to three hours per course. Upon completion of each course, participants will receive a certificate of achievement. After finishing all seven courses, they will earn the Google AI Professional Certificate, which can be added to their SuccessFactors profile, LinkedIn, résumé, or CV.
