Alphabet Inc.’s Google is facing a significant delay in delivering its most powerful flagship AI model, Gemini 3.5 Pro, due to the company’s efforts to improve its capabilities, particularly in coding. According to people familiar with the matter, this has been a source of frustration for Google engineers, AI researchers, and managers who are concerned that the company risks losing an edge in the market as rivals Anthropic and OpenAI produce models that exceed Gemini’s capabilities. This concern is shared by 10 current and former employees who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal concerns.
