Workday Integrates Sana with Popular AI Tools and Platforms
Workday, Inc. has announced that its agentic experience and orchestration engine, Sana, will be integrated into various popular AI tools and platforms used by employees, including Claude, Gemini Enterprise, Microsoft Copilot, Slack, and Teams.
This integration allows Workday’s HR and finance agents to work seamlessly with these tools, streamlining the process of getting tasks done wherever work happens. Employees can ask for what they need in plain language, and Sana will check company policies, permissions, and approvals before bringing in the right Workday agents to complete the task.
For example, a business leader can ask Sana inside Microsoft Copilot to model a planning decision. Sana checks permissions, uses company data to compare options, and saves the chosen plan to Workday with a full audit trail. If approval is needed, Sana gathers context first and gives the manager a clear recommendation.
This integration builds on the self-service capabilities already available in these tools, allowing employees to get answers quickly without having to file tickets or chase answers. Companies can stay in control of their data, policies, and approvals while still providing employees with easy access to HR and finance domain AI agents.
‘People shouldn’t have to leave a conversation to access HR or finance domain AI agents,’ said Joel Hellermark, chief AI officer at Workday. ‘Wherever that conversation happens, Sana brings the same understanding of a company’s people, money, and rules.’
Sana is more than just a connector; it applies each company’s own permissions, approvals, and policies before acting on any request. Third-party AI tools and platforms never get raw access to Workday data – they can now access this data through Sana, which does the reasoning and carries out work so actions are lawful by design and recorded.
With Sana, employees can ask for specific outcomes, and it will coordinate the right Workday agents and tools behind the scenes to complete the task. This eliminates the need for employees to know which agent handles what or having to navigate multiple systems. Additionally, Sana can spot issues before an employee asks for help – for example, flagging unfiled expenses in Claude and applying company policy.
One connection brings Workday agents into the tools employees already use, eliminating the need to connect every tool to every agent one by one. When Workday adds a new capability, it shows up across connected tools without requiring employees to learn a new system. Policy checks and approvals stay anchored in Workday, ensuring work can start in any connected AI tool while company controls remain intact.
Sana keeps complex work moving by providing a home experience where employees and managers can see what’s happening, pick up where they left off, and keep the work progressing. This is particularly useful for tasks that involve multiple people, steps, and decisions unfolding over time – such as open enrollment, performance reviews, or workforce planning.
