Microsoft Expands Copilot's Capabilities

·

Copilot, Microsoft’s AI-powered tool, is getting more control over Windows and user files. The company has unveiled an upgrade that grants it access to local files on PCs and lets it take actions across the operating system.

Hybrid Intelligence is a new concept where apps and tools rely on both local and cloud AI models to accomplish tasks efficiently. This approach enables Copilot to use user files on Windows PCs, allowing it to perform various actions. The company says this will improve performance and save time for users.

Micrsoft showcased the power of Hybrid Intelligence with a video demo featuring Jacob Andreou, EVP of Copilot at Microsoft. In the demonstration, he asked Autopilot to assist with filing taxes by searching for relevant documents and taking necessary steps. The AI agent successfully located required information across different folders, renamed files, zipped them into a folder, and drafted an email to send to the accountant.

The features powered by Hybrid Intelligence will roll out to Copilot over the next couple of months, according to Andreou’s announcement. This upgrade is part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to enhance its AI capabilities and improve user experience. The company says these improvements will be available soon.

Starting this fall on Windows 11 PCs, users can take quick actions from a new search bar feature unveiled by Microsoft. These actions include turning on dark mode, adjusting mic volume with an in-line slider, or sending a text message – confirmed by Pavan Davuluri, boss of Windows and Surface.
