Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA Expand Strategic Partnership for Automated Driving
Munich, Germany - Mercedes-Benz and NVIDIA have announced the expansion of their strategic partnership to advance safe highly automated driving in the next decade. The collaboration combines Mercedes-Benz’s automotive engineering expertise with NVIDIA’s accelerated computing and AI technologies.
The partnership brings together two industry leaders in a bid to accelerate the development of automated vehicles. Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system will be integrated with NVIDIA Hyperion’s compute and sensor architecture, Alpamayo Stack software, and Halos safety system to support advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and future SAE-Level 4 applications.
According to Jörg Burzer, member of the board of management at Mercedes-Benz Group AG and chief technology officer for development and procurement, NVIDIA is their most important strategic partner in automated driving. He stated that together they have developed the first Mercedes-Benz assistance system for urban point-to-point driving for the western world, marking a significant milestone in their partnership.
The expansion of the partnership reflects the mutual trust built between the two companies over the years. Ali Kani, vice president of automotive at NVIDIA, emphasized the importance of accelerated computing in enabling vehicles to understand and reason through complex driving situations. He noted that Mercedes-Benz brings the engineering excellence and commitment to safety required for this transformation.
The integration of MB.OS with NVIDIA Hyperion’s architecture will enable seamless over-the-air updates and support new driving functions. The Alpamayo Stack software provides full-stack driving capabilities, including AI reasoning, while Halos adds a parallel safety stack that enhances redundancy and guardrails. Together, these technologies aim to make autonomous driving an everyday reality.
Beyond automated driving, Mercedes-Benz also relies on NVIDIA’s technologies for vehicle engineering simulation within its digital production ecosystem, MO360. The partnership aims to enhance efficiency, flexibility, and quality across the global production network.
