Google's Universal Cart Shopping Tool Now Available in the US

·

Google has launched its Universal Cart shopping tool in the United States, allowing users to collect and monitor products they find across search and within the Gemini app. The company first previewed this feature at Google I/O in May, with the goal of making online shopping easier to manage.

The idea behind Universal Cart is to provide a central hub for browsing and keeping track of potential purchases. Users can save items from multiple retailers, eliminating the need to hunt down products or start over when returning later. This tool also helps shoppers stay on top of deals and availability by sending notifications when prices drop or out-of-stock items become available again.

Universal Cart is designed to offer more tailored help during the shopping process. Google says it takes credit card perks into account when assisting users with payment choices, and surfaces relevant promo codes. The checkout process is tied to Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), an open standard introduced earlier this year that enables AI agents and retailers to work together across different parts of the shopping journey.

Google has been investing heavily in AI-powered shopping features, and Universal Cart is its latest effort to make online shopping more convenient. This tool joins other features such as conversational product discovery in Search’s AI Mode and Google’s ‘Let Google Call’ tool, which uses an AI agent to contact nearby stores and check whether an item is in stock.
